New changes to data protection laws will mean that company directors and individuals can face prosecution if protection is not in place.
NEW DATA REGULATIONS – INDIVIDUALS WILL BE PROSECUTED
All companies should be concerned about the changes in regulations to protect data that are coming in over the next two or three years.
The issue for all companies is that they must keep their data protected. Governments and regulators are becoming frustrated by the fact that companies are not protecting themselves and are leaving themselves open. The governments and regulators and the Police and the agencies that protect us are not capable of keeping up with everything that hackers do and they’re now insisting that companies protect themselves.
In order to do this they’re looking straight at Directors and Executive Officers and putting the onus on them and looking at them as individuals for responsibility. Where there is a breach they will be looking for names on doors and they will be chasing those people, and those people will be individually prosecuted if there is a data breach which is negligent.
