A bottom up leadership strategy will help you prosper
I think it’s absolutely essential that organisations and SMEs do try to have a more bottom-up culture, and what we mean by ‘bottom-up’ is the fact that we want people to actually feel at all levels of the organisation that they have some stake in how things are run, there is some ability to change things and that they have some input into the overall vison of the SME.
One of the key parts about that is it’s a different type of leadership style. It’s a leadership style in which you actually empower people to make the changes that are necessary and you give them the space to both individually and collaboratively find out how to make your SME grow and be the best it can be.
So I think a bottom-up style is one that is more engaged, as we talked about perhaps before, but it’s also one that is more democratic often times, so it’s really asking people to say “What do you need and what do you think we should do?” And it’s also about giving them the tools to do what is necessary to make your SMEs prosper.
